Episode 01: City Of (Angel Season One)

In our first episode, Series Pass delves into Angel (Season One) created by Joss Whedon & David Greenwalt. The show is a spin off of the popular Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and stars former series regulars David Boreanaz & Charisma Carpenter. We would love to hear your comments!

  1. Loved the podcast! My opinions really differ from yours when it comes to some of the characters on Angel; I loved Wesley all through his witty-broody evolution, and I loved Gunn's character. Hippocampus fails to remember what else I didn't agree on, but honestly, I enjoyed hearing J's new podcast ^^ I just got done with my reviewing of Angel. Beginning Lost rewatch next month, so voted Lost on the poll ;)

  2. Thanks so much! Glad you stuck with me through the move! Angel is a tricky show for me as I don't quite take well to all the characters but really do enjoy the show! Lost season one cast is in the works now and should be coming at you very soon! Thanks for commenting as always :)

  3. Many thanks for that podcast, guys! I'll be honest and say that I have no idea who or where you guys came from, I stumbled upon this link from "whedonesque.com", but you've got my interest from the very get-go. Now Season 1...yeah...it get's a "B-" from me too. If it weren't for the crossover episodes, it would get a lower rating from me as well. I have to disagree with your thoughts on Wesley...I loved that character right 'till the end (well, i didn't wasn't really fond of anybody in Season 4). And Gunn? Yeah...he never really became anything...at all. He had promise at the beginning of Season 3, but it never blossomed into anything.
Angel is my 2nd favorite show, being beat out by Twin Peaks....followed by LOST...so can't wait to hear about that here.

Keep up the good work. :)

  4. Thanks so much for the comment and glad you found us! Seems like a lot of our Angel opinions are on point and don't worry about the Wesley thing, I think I'm the only one who didn't like his character haha. Season one is probably my least favorite of the Angel series so I'm excited to move on to later seasons! Again, thanks for listening!

  5. Great podcast.While I have some disagreements
with you guys still nice.Angel Season 1 Is the weakest of Angel for me.Untill the last 5 episodes it was too episodic for me.Even Joss
himself admitted this was a problem and said he sucked at doing stand alone episodesBut once Faith showed up and they really had Wolfram and heart as major player It showed It's promise.

  6. You know my feelings about Wes already so I won't get into that, and I actually agree about Gunn, but at the same time I did love him still. I guess I can say I agree with the 'B' rating as well. Not my favorite season by any means, but has so many great moments, all of which greatly outweigh the not-so-great ones for me.

Oh and finally ordered Supernatural S1 for a rewatch to go with that ep. Not as familiar with it even though I just watched them...watched so fast I don't remember what happened when. ;)

  7. I find it really surprising that both of you don't like Wesley's evolution, I think it's the best one in the buffyverse and one of the bests on tv. Then again, Angel is my favourite Whedon show (Firefly could've been, with more episodes), so I think our opinions are quite different.

  8. An excellent start to the podcast. Angel is one of my favourite shows from recent years coming off the back off an equally enjoyable series.
Looking forward to your discussions on other shows most of which I probably do like, always helps when listeners enjoy the podcasts subject:)

  9. Chris: Definitely agree with you. The inclusion of Faith's incredible arc in the Angelverse as well as the elevation of Wolfram & Heart in the story line really helped later seasons of the show. Season's 3 & 4 are by far my favorite of the series.

Jennifer: Yeah, we are definitely in the minority with Wes and I think C likes him much better than me so we won't be doing any bashing by any means ;) On the Supernatural front, glad you ordered the season as our next episode covers season one!

Damia: We don't hate Wes by any means, and I think C really enjoys his arc. Although his character did make tremendous strides from where we first met him, I just didn't love his darker character especially in S3. S4 & 5 Wes was actually kind of cool. I fully agree with your opinions that Firefly, although great, really didn't get enough time to make it my favorite Whedon show.

Jarrack: Haha we hope we pick some good shows for you guys and will be putting up some viewers choice episodes in time so stay tuned! All of Joss' shows are in our immediate timeline as well as shows like Supernatural, Lost, etc. So we hope you stick around!

Thanks so much for listening and commenting guys! We really appreciate everything!
